It is a fair question, and one we are asked at the counter every week. Because every garment is different, we price each item individually. This guide explains why two items that look similar can cost different amounts, and how to keep your cleaning bill down.
What affects the price
- Fabric. Silk, velvet, suede and some wools need a gentler process and more careful hand finishing than cotton or polyester.
- Construction. A lined, structured jacket takes longer to press than an unlined shirt. Pleats, ruffles and gathers all add finishing time.
- Embellishment. Beads, sequins and lace are checked and sometimes protected before cleaning.
- Size. A king-size duvet or a long pair of lined curtains uses more space and drying time than a single item of clothing.
- Stains. Most stain removal is included. A heavily marked item may need extra treatment, and we will always tell you first.
- Speed. Most items are ready in 2 days. Our 24-hour express service is available for many garments, depending on the fabric.
Is dry cleaning worth it?
For a good suit or coat, regular professional cleaning usually extends its life. Home washing a "dry clean only" garment risks shrinkage, colour loss and a jacket that never hangs the same way again. Replacing a suit costs far more than cleaning it a few times a year.
Five ways to spend less
- Clean suit jackets and trousers together so they wear and fade evenly, and you are not paying to fix a mismatch later.
- Air garments between wears. A suit worn for a few hours often needs a hang and a brush, not a clean.
- Bring stains in quickly. Fresh marks come out more easily, which saves treatment time.
- Have winter coats and duvets cleaned before you put them away for summer, so stains do not set while they are stored.
- Ask about bundles for shirts and household items.
